Brad
This is a movie about a heist and then all the characters try to make off with the goods themselves. Jamie Lee Curtis and others hide the loot and then the location of the loot is hidden and ultimately ends up on a piece of paper that ends up in a fish tank. The goldfish is named Wanda. The fish tank is located in the apartment of the brother of one of the accomplices. I think maybe the goldfish eats the piece of paper with the location on it. Then the mute brother guy eats the goldfish at some point and has to poop it out. In the end Jamie Lee’s accomplice and lover gets run over by a steam roller and is embedded in concrete by this mute brother.
Erin
This movie is about unrequited love. There is a couple who are trying to con some guy out of money by pretending they are brother and sister instead of romantically involved. This woman, Wanda, is basically trying to seduce this guy who likes her. He also has a tank of precious fish and he names his favorite one Wanda after the woman he likes. There is a bunch of money that gets stolen, and a key to get the money is hidden in the fish tank. Several comedic events occur as these three characters get mixed up in trying to get to the money. At one point, the ‘brother’ ends up eating the other guy’s fish named Wanda as an intimidation tactic. He is very upset by this.
Hindsight Analysis: Well, it looks like this was a hit and miss battle. Including Jamie Lee Curtis, the other main characters included Kevin Kline as her initial love interest, Michael Palin as the accomplice with a stutter (not entirely mute), and John Cleese as the lawyer-turned-love interest who we both entirely forgot. Apparently it was a key and not piece of paper that was in the fish tank and it is uncertain if Kevin Kline’s character who ate the fish ever had to poop it out. Brad doesn’t agree with Erin that the movie was about unrequited love but to each their own. Erin remembered several details including the fake relationship between Jamie Lee Curtis’ and Kevin Kline’s characters. Erin was also keen to remember the brutal effect that the ingestion of the fish called Wanda had on Michael Palin’s character. There were several key events we did not remember off the top of our heads including the heist being a diamond heist, an important locket that factored into the plot, and a legal trial near the end. Brad was the only one to remember the steam roller incident. Overall, Erin seems to have grasped the inner essence of this movie more so than Brad.
